I’ve always told Brittney, our Tasting Room/Wine Club manager, that our members are some of the most interesting people I have met. Today’s introduction was a good example.
Coming out of the copy room, my eye went across the parking lot to a vintage fifties Ford pickup in a beautiful sea/lime green. Though I only caught a corner of the fender, I immediately dropped my paperwork and headed for the lot. On the way I checked the bar (trying to guess the owner) and discovered only one young man but several women…now, wasn’t that a bit sexist!
Well, when I got up close, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Ground up restoration on this ‘57 F-100 with new, big, V-8 power to boot. Inside thoroughly restored including upholstery, gauges etc.. Fat white walls, black/chrome “rockabilly” style wheels, chrome dual exhausts and an open bed exposing an “Accuair” air suspension system.
For those of you wondering what that is, this enables you to pull up to your destination 16” off the ground and then to lay it down to 3.”
Sounds crazy-looks great!
But the most remarkable thing to me was the “shifter” gear knob – - a Schaefer Beer (draught) handle – - which happens to be an old beer company in my home town of Albany, N.Y. !
Why Schaefer? Well, the members name is Sara Schaefer and her husband Derek built this beautiful beast! Sara claims he turns out these projects right and left in his spare time until one bores him and he’s off to the next. Derek happens to work with “Accuair” right here in our county.
Take a look at the photo! As we said goodbye, Sara, a red haired beauty with a matching vintage green dress, clicked over to the pickup in her high heels, hoisted herself in, fired that baby up. With a gentle purr from the dual exhausts, she raised it up off the ground and away she went.
Who wants to go back to the copy room after that?
