Vintage Notes

Primera is a selection each year of our very best barrels from superior blocks in Edna Ranch. Located in the heart of the newly designated San Luis Obispo Coast AVA, these blocks showcase a variety of terriors and clones that provide a tapestry of flavors for Winemaker Frederic Delivert to select from. For 2022, Dijon Clone 828 comprises roughly half of the blend, with the rest made up of clones 667, 115 and 943.

Winemaking

In 2022, after a three-day cold soak, almost a third of the wine was fermented with dried stems that enhance the aromatics and structure of the finished wine. Fermentation took place primarily in open top stainless steel tanks with 10% fermented in new oak barrels. 71% of this wine was aged in 60 gallon French oak barrels, 28% new, with the remainder aged in French Ovonum (egg shaped) oak barrels for eleven months.

Nose: Forward aromas of dark cherry, plum and pomegranate are integrated with notes of drief savory herbs, clove and new leather.

Palate: Medium full body with juicy, polished flavors of cranberry and cherry, accented by vanilla, red licorice, a strong minerality and a long, fruit-focused finish.
