Pinot Noir Pacific Wind 2017

WINEMAKER NOTES
The Pacific Wind Pinot Noir is named after the cold Pacific wind that continuously sweeps down the coast and into the Edna Valley, creating a microclimate ideal for ripening delicate Pinot Noir grapes. The wind serves as a moderating influence to the vineyards, producing a wine with a vibrant acidity that lifts the palate. The Pinot Noir grapes were handpicked at night, sorted by a state of the art optical sorting machine and fermented in rectangular stainless-steel tanks. Fermentation was carefully managed to ensure a gentle extraction rate to avoid over developing the tannin profile. The wine was aged for 9 months in French oak barrels with 25% of them being new. The Pacific Wind Pinot Noir is a graceful wine showcasing finesse at its finest and the purest expression of Edna Valley terroir.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine come from three different sections of Tolosa estate vineyard, Edna Ranch: Monighetti, Stornetta and Hollister. The Monighetti section is the first to receive the Pacific wind, as it sweeps down the transverse valley. Stornetta is planted on rolling hills offering a variation of aspect and orientation, while receiving a strong afternoon sea breeze. The Hollister section is closest to the ocean, a mere 5 miles, which is not only exposed to the costal sea breeze, but is a magnet for costal fog.
