1772 Chardonnay 2020

Vintage Notes
With a late bud break and a dry, mild summer, the 2020 growing season looked a lot like 2019 and on par as a cooler vintage. Fortunately, flavors developed faster than in 2019, which allowed us to start picking in late August and through September to capitalize on the excellent sugar and acid balance in the grapes.
Winemaking
Grapes for this wine were whole cluster pressed, which reduces extraction of phenolic (bitter) compounds and then fermented in French Oak at cooler temperatures. Aged nine months on its lees in 15% new French Oak, the combination of a cooler fermentation, lees contact and French Oak aging provides structure, richness, and freshness.
Wine Profile
Nose: Aromas of yellow apple, apricot, and cantaloupe mixed with notes of hazelnut, vanilla, white flowers, and honey.
Palate: Medium bodied with mineral notes, bright, crunchy stone fruits, and hints of vanilla custard framed by brisk acidity.
