1772 Grenache 2020

Vintage Notes
With a late bud break and a dry, mild summer, the 2020 growing season looked a lot like 2019 and on par as a cooler vintage. Grenache has always been one of our late-ripening varieties; fortunately, flavors developed faster than in 2019, which allowed us to pick earlier and capitalize on the excellent sugar and acid balance in the grapes.
Winemaking
Much like our Pinot Noir, these grapes were fermented separately in open top stainless steel tanks and feature a mix of cool and warm fermentations. Warm fermentation brings an intense burst of berry notes and velvety texture, while cold fermentation adds freshness and structure. Aged for eight months in 100% French oak, 30% new, some of the French Oak was larger oak puncheons to preserve freshness.
Wine Profile
Nose: Aromas of cherry preserves, strawberries, ripe plum, thyme, red licorice and new leather.
Palate: Medium full body with pomegranate and ripe plum flavors, dusty earth and savory herbs, accented by integrated tannins makes this wine excitingly approachable.
