It is uncommon to see Petit Verdot featured on its own. Traditionally, Petit Verdot is blended with other Bordeaux varietals. It is a grape known for its inky color and big tannin structure. A varietal that requires much patience, it takes its time to ripen, benefiting from a long hangtime, and requires much attention to detail during the winemaking process to avoid over extraction. The Petit Verdot was fermented in open top fermenters which allows access for punch downs. Punch downs are a softer approach to manage color and tannin extraction. The wine was aged for18 months in a combination of new and neutral French oak barrels. Petit Verdot is an excellent inclusion for a wine cellar and will reward those who patiently await enjoyment between 2020 and 2030.

The Petit Verdot was grown in the Paso Ono Vineyard, in the El Pomar District AVA located in South East Paso Robles. Petit Verdot, a late ripening varietal originally from Bordeaux, can reach its best potential in warmer areas of California. It thrives in the hot temperatures of the Paso Robles climate and would fail to ripen in Edna Valley. The warmer temperatures result in the true expression of the varietal.
