Drum Canyon Vineyard 2021
94 Points - Wine Advocate
Vintage Notes
2021 was slow and steady, with mild temperatures prevailing from bud break to harvest. Mild early season conditions produced a favorable fruit set, and grapes developed steadily without extreme weather. Santa Rita Hills harvest was later this year than most of Santa Barbara; grapes were picked on September 3rd with excellent flavor, color, and acidity.
Winemaking
The Calera clone took center stage in 2021, comprising two-thirds of the blend. After destemming and a three-day cold soak, fermentation was done in open-top stainless-steel tanks at a range of warm and cool temperatures. Aged 11 months in 100% French oak with 18% new barrels.
Wine Profile
Nose: Aromas of black cherry, red beets, and plums with a spicy mix of savory, earthy lavender and anise notes.
Palate: Medium body, layered and fruit-driven, particularly cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry, with an interesting mineral-driven texture and beautiful balance.
"The 2021 Pinot Noir Drum Canyon Vineyard has pure, nuanced scents of blueberries, raspberry jam, grapefruit, lavender, hibiscus and botanical undertones…an impressive depth of flavor and a very long, fragrant finish.” - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate (94 Points)
