1772 Syrah 2015
Traditionally, the Syrah grapes from Tolosa’s estate vineyard, Edna Ranch, produce a savory cool climate wine similar in style to the classic Syrah produced in the Northern Rhone region in France. The 2015 vintage was unusually warm which produced a riper fruit-driven profile in the wine. The fruit was hand-picked during the early morning hours to ensure it was delivered to the winery in pristine condition. The grapes were sorted by a state-of-the-art optical sorter so that only the best grapes made it into the wine. The wine was fermented in an open top stainless steel tank then barreled down. The wine was aged for 19 months in French and American oak barrels.
ABOUT THE VINEYARD
The Syrah fruit for this wine features two clones, 99 and 877. Both clones come from the Hollister portion of the vineyard which is the closest section of Edna Ranch to the Pacific Ocean. The soil is rockier at this vineyard site which results in a more aromatic and concentrated wine.
